The Norwegian Media Authority
Code of Practice on Disinformation in numbers
The industry standard against disinformation obligates social media platforms, search engines, and advertising services to limit the spread of disinformation and report on the effectiveness of their measures.
The Norwegian Media Authority has selected relevant data from the platforms' self-reporting, primarily related to fake users, posts removed due to violations of disinformation policies, content flagged as unverified after fact-checking, and advertisements. On this page, you can view the Media Authority's visualisation of the reported numbers from Google, Meta, Microsoft, and TikTok.
The display is virtual, and a guide can be found on the last page, titled "Instructions." To activate full-screen mode in the display, press the icon in the bottom right corner of the window below.
The reported numbers are generally intended to cover six months. However, in the first report, the data was provided for different periods, and the Media Authority has adjusted the numbers to reflect a six-month period ("six-month numbers"). Additionally, the Media Authority has adjusted the numbers for the Nordic countries based on the population, as an approximation of the number of users, to obtain a measure of the number per million inhabitants and to better compare the various countries. Each visualization indicates which data has been used: actual reported numbers, six-month numbers, or six-month numbers adjusted for population size.
